What is the Mystical Archive?

The Mystical Archive is a bonus sheet that first appeared in the original Strixhaven set. It contains instants and sorceries in a special frame reminiscent of old spellbooks. In Secrets of Strixhaven the Archive returns: every card comes in an English and a Japanese frame, and the Japanese versions also come as Silver Scroll.

Important for players: Mystical Archive cards are only legal in the formats where that card is already allowed. For Standard, only cards with the main set symbol count.

Buying reprints: what to look for

  1. Check the version: The same card can come as a regular version, in the Mystical Archive frame, in Japanese or as a foil. Prices differ a lot.
  2. Mind legality: An Archive reprint does not automatically make a card playable in Standard.
  3. Compare prices: Reprints often lower a card's price in the short term. How it develops later cannot be reliably predicted.
